Hi! My name is Jessica and I am the owner of 13 Gears. I started in the jewelry business with mostly beaded jewelry with my other business, 13 Beads. I dabbled in some steampunk jewelry here and there; I always had a handful of steampunk pieces for sale at the shows I attended. I’ll admit, I always had the most fun creating the steampunk pieces because this jewelry was unlike anything I had ever seen - so interesting and fun! Working with vintage items also created a whole new dynamic to my pieces, and nearly every piece now had a back story to it.
At the suggestion of some friends, I decided to try selling all steampunk jewelry at the 2012 Ye Olde Renaissance Faire at Eagle Island State Park. I had no idea how the crowd would take to my jewelry, and I braced for the worst. To my absolute amazement, the crowd LOVED my jewelry!
My first all-steampunk show was such a success, I decided to try all-steampunk jewelry at the holiday shows. I was even more nervous for these shows because it was such a different market than the Renaissance Faire. The shoppers surprised me once again, and 13 Gears was born! Now I sell all-steampunk jewelry and gifts all the time!
I will be attending as many local craft shows and events as possible, so look for 13 Gears when you attend!
